If you want predictable student acquisition without relying on ads, get your timing right. For martial arts school marketing, timing is a multiplier. The same school presentation delivered at the right moment produces more opt-ins, more bookings, and more enrollments.
RIGHT NOW is prime time in most markets to set up โschool talksโbecause school is back in session, and most schools are settled in their routine.
Which means their guidance counselor or principal is much more approachable than in the first couple of weeks of school.
But when is the best time of the year to actually DO school talks?
After conducting 500+ โschool talksโ with my own schools and with clients around the country, hereโs what we found is the BEST time of year to do itโฆ
Right after the new year. So Jan - March.
Why is this typically the best time of year?

Youth sports are quiet. Little or no baseball and soccer competing for attention.

Parents are coming out of winter mode and want productive activities.

Guidance counselors have open calendars this far out and want engaging in-school demonstrations that reinforce focus, discipline, and confidence.

This is exactly why we stack public school talks and private school talks for Jan - March.
Fewer distractions equals higher conversion rate. (we also do some on very specific dates in October and November)
Does this mean you shouldnโt do ANYTHING from Sep- December? No.
This is where most martial arts school owners go awry.
September and October are the times you focus on HACKING your way into the schools. This means following the School Hacking script so you can evade the bureaucratic red tape, so you can actually set up a school talk and not be rejected at the door.
But Iโve done โschool talksโ before and didnโt get much out of itโฆ
Iโve heard this so many times from martial arts school owners across the country.
If you spilled your heart out to teach a great class, but didnโt get many new students out of it, itโs not your fault. You just didnโt have a good system for collecting leads, and โpreheatingโ those leads so they show up to your martial arts school ready to enroll.
Hereโs the rule of thumb for conversion rates you should get from doing a โschool talkโ at a local public or private school.
Across all my clients, we consistently see a 1% to 3%conversion rate within a week.
Do the math.

Run three talks, that equals 15 to 45 new students.
