Can Youtube Help With Student Retention?
Let me be real with youโฆ
It doesnโt matter if youโre Mr. Miyagi or Master Splinter, everybody quits eventually.
People donโt always quit because your classes suck. They quit because: soccer season starts, Mom gets a new work schedule, they get bored (but they wonโt tell you that), money gets tight.
If you want students to stay, you have to address problems before they become problems.
Because if you wait until after they bring it up? You sound defensive.
But if you bring it up first? You sound insightful.
So how do you get inside your studentโs mind and anticipate challenges before they even say them out loud?
One of my favorite retention tools is building a Testimonial Library.
What is that?
Simple. Itโs a collection of short 3โ5 min videos from parents/students that answer the exact objections you know are going to come up.
Examples:
-
A mom talks about how her son was getting bored, you switched things up by challenging them in different ways, and heโs now on track for black belt.
-
A family went away on vacation, but you gave them homework and they stayed consistent.
-
A student was about to quit for baseball season, but you did private lessons and helped him stay on track.
You don't need a Hollywood camera crew. Just a phone, a parent, and a real story.

Bonus Tip: Upload these to YouTube as a playlist. No one is going to stumble on them randomlyโฆ but thatโs not the point.
The point is this:
The next time a parent says,
โSheโs just been a little bored lately,โ
you reply with:
โThatโs totally normal! Actually, Alexโs mom said the same thing, watch this video, I think itโll help.โ
Let your students do the convincing for you.
Even better? Use these videos in your automated email sequences.
___
For example:
Email Subject: โIs your child bored in class?โ
Email Body:
Not every martial arts class is going to be the most exciting moment of your childโs life.
And honestly, thatโs a good thing.
Because mastering anything requires repetition and discipline.
Even LeBron gets bored practicing layups.
That said, we do want your child to have fun!
So if they ever feel bored, please let us know.
In the meantime, hereโs a quick story from Alexโs mom, whose son felt the same way, and how we helped him get his motivation back.

This wonโt happen overnight. But if you spend one month building your Testimonial Library, itโll serve your school for years.
Because we all know theyโll want to quit eventually.
Now youโll be ready before that moment ever comes.
