Do This One (Uncomfortable) Thing To Make Your Classes Better
Letโs be real for a secondโฆ
You ever get those emails from airlines or Amazon asking for feedback?
โRate your experience!โ
Theyโre always trying to improve the customer experience. And thereโs a reason billion-dollar companies do this. Because feedback is the fastest way to find your blind spots.
But for some reason, most martial arts schools never ask for it.
Some school owners think theyโre above it. They say things like:
โWeโre only looking for serious students anyway.โ
Translation: I donโt want to hear anything bad about my classes.
Look, I talk to hundreds of school owners every year. And hereโs what Iโve noticed:
-
The ones struggling the most are the ones telling me how great everything is.
-
The ones crushing it? Theyโre the ones asking for help and fixing things fast.
Thatโs the difference between a fixed mindset and a growth mindset (Carol Dweck).
So if you want to train your staff to become great instructors, not just wavemasters with hair, you need to build feedback into your culture.
Hereโs a simple way to start:
Hand out a short survey to parents while class is happening.
Theyโre already sitting there. Most are just scrolling on their phones. Give them something useful to do.
Tell them:
โHey, weโre trying to make our classes even better, and Iโd love your honest feedback, brutally honest is okay! It helps us grow.โ
Then hand them a digital or paper survey.
Even if it stings a little, itโs worth it.
Because when you start fixing the small stuff, class flow, instructor energy, communication style, youโll see a big impact on retention and word-of-mouth.
The schools with the most enrollments donโt always have the biggest buildings or the fanciest logosโฆ
They have the best product. Which means: the best classes.
Want a ready-to-go student survey you can copy/paste? Just reply โbetter classesโ and Iโll send it your way.
BTW- Iโm hosting a FREE Masterclass this Monday (7/28) @ 2pm EST where Iโll show you exactly how to hack your way into schools and set up programs that generate new student enrollments without offering tuition discounts or pretending to be the PE teacher.
Itโs limited to 48 spots so I can answer questions live. Click here to reserve your spot now.
